NFP releases: prepare for event risk
The US employment report can change expectations and market prices. Check the official release calendar rather than assuming the same local time every month.
1. Check the official schedule
The BLS Employment Situation calendar lists release dates and 08:30 Eastern Time. The equivalent time in Vietnam is generally 19:30 during US daylight saving time or 20:30 during US standard time. Confirm the date and time for the specific release; calendar changes and exceptional dates can occur.
2. Read more than the headline
Employment changes, the unemployment rate, earnings and revisions can all contribute to the market’s interpretation. A result above a forecast does not mechanically guarantee a particular direction for gold or the US dollar.
3. Plan for execution uncertainty
News periods can involve wider spreads, slippage, gaps and rapid reversals. A stop order may execute at a different price from the trigger. Pending orders on both sides can be triggered in succession. Waiting or not taking a position is a decision you can include in the plan.
4. Review any setup independently
If considering a later setup, reassess liquidity, price structure and total exposure at that time. Waiting a set number of minutes does not guarantee normal conditions. Record the release, market reaction and whether the trade followed your rules.
